Fidelity Cybersecurity Tips

Raise your awareness of potential threats, reduce your risk, and secure your digital life.

Consider these steps to help you stay vigilant.

  • Use Strong Credentials & Passwords
Creating a username and password that’s strong, unique, and a mix of uppercase, lowercase, and symbols is key. You can also use a password manager, as they can make it easy to use distinct credentials for your financial and other personal accounts.
  • Secure Your Devices
Malware viruses can be spread on your computer, phone, or tablet through malicious links and attachments. Always beware of emails, texts, and links from unknown sources.
  • Double-Check Website Links
If you’re checking personal accounts or shopping online, make sure the website you are visiting is legitimate and uses https:// in the address bar. This indicates a secure connection that encrypts your personal information.
  • Never Give Out Personal Information Online
You should be careful about what you share online, especially on social media and in certain mobile apps. Your bank account information, social security number, or any other sensitive data should never be given out to anyone unless you know them personally.
  • Learn How to Spot Phishing Scams
A phishing scam attempts to trick you into giving away your personal information. These scams request confidential information via emails, pop-up messages, or other unsecured channels. In case you receive a suspicious email or message, do not click any links or provide any personal details.
  • Report Anything Suspicious
If you see something suspicious online, don’t hesitate to report it. Contact your bank, credit card company, and/or financial institution immediately if you notice any unauthorized transactions, unusual activity, or suspicious behavior.
