Leave of Absence and Disability

Leave requests must be submitted at least 30 days in advance (or sooner if the need is unexpected).

Benefit Features

Leave of absence isn’t the same as paid time off (PTO) or vacation time.

Under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), all employees may be eligible to take up to 12 weeks of job-protected unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:
  • Your health care provider has determined you are unable to work due to serious illness or injury.
  • To care for an immediate family member with a serious health condition or undergoing medical treatment.
  • Incapacity due to pregnancy or to care for your newborn child.
  • To care for your recently adopted or foster care child.
  • To care for your spouse, child or parent on the temporary disability retired list for an injury incurred while on active duty in the Armed Forces.
NOTE: Employees must be employed for one year and have worked at least 1,250 hours in the previous 12 months to be eligible. FMLA leave runs concurrently with all other forms of paid/unpaid leave.

Eligible employees who are birthing mothers may take up to 8 consecutive weeks of paid leave if they:
  • Work at least 20 hours per week
  • Complete one month of continuous service before giving birth
If approved, maternity benefits will be paid as follows (subject to applicable taxes and withholdings):
  • Salaried employees will receive 100% of their salary.
  • Hourly employees will receive $450/week.
NOTE: Eligible employees qualify for 8 weeks of Birthing leave after giving birth. Birthing leave runs concurrently with STD and FMLA.

Eligible employees can take up to 2 weeks of paid leave to bond with your new child, regardless of your gender or marital status.

This benefit can be used within the first 12 months after birth or adoption. Employees who became a legal guardian of a child through birth or adoption on or after January 1 are also eligible for this benefit.

If approved, bonding leave benefits will be paid as follows (subject to applicable taxes and withholdings):
  • Salaried employees will receive 100% of their salary.
  • Hourly employees will receive $450/week.
NOTE: You must be employed with Lennox at the time of birth or adoption to qualify for bonding leave. Bonding leave can be used in addition to maternity leave.

Lennox offers 100% Company-paid Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage to all employees through Sedgwick.

If you are unable to work due to a serious health condition or injury that is not work-related, you may use this benefit to replace a portion of your pay for up to a maximum 26 weeks.

Hourly Employees

For hourly employees, Short-Term Disability coverage pays a weekly benefit of 60% of your earnings (up to a maximum of $450 a week) for up to 26 weeks.

Salaried Employees

For salaried employees, Short-Term Disability coverage is based on your length of service.

Lennox employees have the option of purchasing Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage during the annual Open Enrollment period through New York Life.*.

If you are unable to work for more than 26 weeks due to a serious health condition or injury that is not work-related, you may use this benefit to replace a portion of your pre-disability earnings (60% salaried, 50% hourly), up to $10,000 per month.

LTD benefits are tax-free since you pay for the full cost of coverage through after-tax payroll deductions.

*If you do not actively elect Long-Term Disability coverage when you’re initially eligible, you must submit an Evidence of Insurability (EOI) form to New York Life, which must be approved before your coverage becomes effective.

NYL Employee Assistance & Wellness Support

New York Life (NYL) offers an Employee Assistance and Wellness Support Program to those enrolled in the Long-Term Disability benefit. This is in addition to the Lennox EAP available to all employees.

NOTE: If you are an LTD-covered employee leaving Lennox , you can still access NYL’s EAP services for up to 90 days (and even longer if on COBRA).



Employees who are members of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, or those performing protected-uniformed service are eligible for unpaid leave of absences when called for active or inactive duty training.
